Let’s NOT Encrypt
Recently the free Let’s Encrypt SSL service had a major issue with over 3 million certs that were issued. They were revoked today, and it caused all sorts of headaches for many sites. Let’s Encrypt is fine for test sites and temporary scenarios, but this is one of the reasons we here at LexiConn still recommend a commercial SSL certificate for any live website.
Besides the recent problem, Let’s Encrypt SSL certs are automated, renewing in the background every 90 days. This can lead to an expired cert if there is a glitch in the auto renewal process (which can be fragile in many ways). This type of automated renewal problem is avoided with a commercial SSL certificate.
Just a little food for thought when considering what type of SSL certificate to use for your website. If you have questions about this, drop us a line.
